Hi all,

Quick question. Is there much difference between the above 2 processors? Im looking to buy this weekend and all the choices in components are driving me a bit mad lol

:)

Skylake vs Devils Canyon

Skylake = newer chipset + ~10% faster in general and supports DDR4.
More expensive though so worth considering what your primary usage is.

Do you have any parts already?

a 4690k with mobo bundle cost around £245.00
The 6600K is around £225.00 - then add mobo.
Big price difference.
You could get X99 - 5820k hex core bundle for £430.

If you don't need the newer features of the Z170 then better to go with the 4690K and better GPU...(imo).
You could always drop in a i7 4790K in the future for an upgrade although not really necessary unless musing multi GPUs and lots of encoding.

This is the gfx card I'm thinking of getting

XFX Radeon R9 390 "DD Black Edition" 8192MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (R9-390P-8DB6)

I have a 1080p monitor

Games wise I wanna play fallout 4 battlefront and over watch as well as lol and hots

Personally I would go for skylake, more future proof and slightly better overall plus it doesn't really work out to be that much more than the DC setup, ocuk are taking the **** with cpu prices, plenty of other places got the 6600k for £200 including free delivery.

And this isn't a bad price for 8/16GB + a decent MB

Only problem is the i5 6600k is out of stock everywhere so you will have to wait a few more days/weeks

4690k easily just now, Skylake is same speed but costs much more due to current availability problems. It's on a newer mobo platform but the differences are all pretty pointless except to a handful of users.

Normally when new chips release and a few weeks pass they become an easy pick as they tend to end up being no more expensive so even if no real performance gains there is no reason not to, Skylake is taking it's time coming down in price though :(

Don't like it then don't buy from them, but no need to whine about it. Personally the fact that OcUK use a decent courier, offer free shipping, and have a decent returns process, is more than enough to offset any small price differences.

In the past when there have been big price disparity, then staff have explained the reasoning (e.g. poor stock availability to all suppliers, poor margin due to preferential treatment of other suppliers).

Which clearly they haven't got it for £200 as they haven't got stock

I would agree with certain sites but at least 2-3 of them have that all covered and the most popular one has even better returns/service than ocuk so your point is moot.

Hardly whining about.... just not going to be taken for a mug like others, and not everyone gets free delivery i.e. for myself, so the price isn't just £25 dearer but £35 more, many people would consider that a substantial enough price difference.

Even when these other places had stock, they were still £200 so again moot point.

Doubt it will land today and even if it did, it wouldn't be dispatched now anyway.

Another place had an ETA for yesterday and still nothing today.

Gibbo said, if not this week then next week.

i live in stoke so could pick it up :)

edit... just noticed the eta has been updated from today til next wednesday :(
