Hello chaps

I bought an OC bundle last year and it has just started playing up. It is overheating like a monster and I don’t really know what could be causing it (I don’t know an awful lot about overclocking, that’s why I bought a pre-made bundle)

I thought that the H50 water cooler might have a bubble in it or something, but I was under the impression it was a sealed unit? Is there a way to tell?

Spec:
*OVERCLOCKED* Intel Core i5 750 2.66Ghz @ 4.00GHz / Gigabyte GA-P55-UD5 Intel P55 Motherboard / Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) PC3-12800C9 1600MHz DDR3 Bundle

Corsair Hydro H50-1 High-Performance CPU Watercooler

At stock it runs at:
50 idle
75 load

Overclocked:
65 idle
99 load

I naturally thought of you guys. I was wondering if you could give me some ideas?

Hello! Thanks for the replies.

I am using coretemp to measure the temps and I was getting 40-60 degrees when i first got the bundle. It seems to be quite a recent problem, i have not had any issues with it before.

Strangely, it only seems to have started playing up since I got Dragon age. This must be a coincidence though surely.

The pump is connected to the motherboard, and not directly into the PSU. It sounds like it is on and i can feel the vibration of the pump working if i touch it. I can hear occasional bubbling when it starts to get hot, is that normal?

I removed the thermal paste that the H50 came with and applied some artic silver myself. A pea sized amount and evened it out with a lint free cloth.

When I get home i will reseat the cooler and see if that helps.

Cheers!

Found the problem!

Looks like i plugged the pump into the wrong fan power socket when I cable managed my case a couple of months ago, so it must not have been getting enough juice to run properly. I also took the heatsink off redid the thermal paste as it was in a bit of a state.

Its running a lot cooler now. 45 idle and 60 on load.

Cheers for your help chaps!
:D

Interesting reading, spreading the thermal paste in a vertical line is a new one for me, i will have to remember not to take things for granted. Especially the precautions :P

"Arctic Silver Thermal Compound Precautions:
1) Don't put it in your mouth.
2) Keep away from children or where children can get a hold of it.
3) Keep it away from pets"
