would an i5-750 at 3.8ghz bottleneck a 7970?

i have -
gigabyte p55a-ud3
8gb corsair vengeance lp ddr3
ocz vertex 2 64gb
corsair 650watt psu 80%

looking at upgrading from a 5850 ocd

I guess this would depend on the game, but overall i'd say no. And even if it did slightly bottleneck, just crank up the AA for no loss of performance. An i5-750 at 3.8Ghz is still an excellent CPU.

i have the same mobo and chipset at 3.6 on stock getting a gelid tommorow so hopefully can push it closer to your 3.9 since it was stable at 3.8 but running a bit too hot for my liking but again its under stock so hardly surprising to be fair. also i doubt very much you will bottleneck with your overclock, but to be fair if you aint gaming above 1080p then the 7970 is a bit overkill atm a 6970 is £160 cheaper and you could throw in a i5 2500k at that difference.

I got the gelid tranquillo the other day. With all my case fans set to 15% in the bios, the temps peak at about 76c in prime. This is @ 3.9 with about 1.29v set in the bios.

Mines running nicely at 3.6 with power savings all on. Always wanted to get to 4ghz but the effort involved seemed like too much for little gain :P
