Hey guys,

I couple years or so back my dad bought me an OCUK bundle consisting of an i5 750 (Quad Core) 2.66ghz @ 4.0ghz, Gigabyte P55UD5 mobo and 4GB Corsair DDR3.

The system still runs fantastic, except the fact Ive been running it on stock settings (2.66ghz) all this time as the temps of the system were always really high and I found the supplied corsair H50 cooler rubbish to be honest.

Now, I have been considering upgrading my system this summer but to be honest I cannot really justify this since my system gives me zero trouble and feels really slick (at least to me).

I now have 12GB or ram and 3 x SSD's and overall the system is great. So my question is, would it be possble to claw my way back up to 4ghz? even 3.x would be cool.

I have no overclocking knowledge whatsoever so I was hoping someone here could save a poor guy a lot of money and help me through the overclocking process!! I am happy to purchase a new cpu cooler, and I was thinking something easy to fit like this would be a good replacement for the H50:

What sayeth you overlords? :p

I bought a overclocked bundle from OCUK about 2 years ago, it was a i5-760 and asus board with 4gb of ram. This was overclocked at 4ghz with a h50 cooler, my temps never reached 70 degrees, all i did was clean the rad and reapply TIM every 6 months. My settings were 20x multiplier and 200 bus speed, my voltages are 1.28 core and had to increase the memory controller i believe, but only slighty, I think they refer to the controller voltage as VTT and thats all i did, im sure if you google it you will find a guide, just remember go slowly and smallish steps, dont go straight for the 4ghz mark.

The h50 should be good to get you to 4ghz without much noise too, i've the same setup and had no issues. I can post my settings if that would help?

Hi Mat, as the other 2 answers, the h-50 should be adequet to cool your pc.
When was the last time you removed the h-50 and gave it all a good clean, then just refit it using some decent thermal paste like AC MX-4
also make sure all case fans etc... are clean.

In the bios, there should be a saved bios setting, that will have the Ocuk overclock settings, acess this (do not delete), load the settings, press f10 to save, then boot into windows.
download cp-z and it will tell u all your cpu info
i would then stress test it again with Intel Burn Test for at least 20 passes, as adding more ram could make your original overclock unstable.

edit. if you still want to change the h-50 then i would recommend this for £6 more then that akasa.
YOUR BASKET
1 x Alpenföhn K2 Mount Doom CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / 2011 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £51.98
Total : £61.88 (includes shipping : £8.25).

just make sure it fits your ram and case

my gaming pc was a 750 at 3.5 for a long time, it could run at 4ghz but it was a small build and i didnt like the heat

you should be able to get a super stable 3.5ghz at 1.2v, and maybe just change the fans if they noisey

3.5-4ghz i dont think is a massive leap

175x20 1.2v on the core, shouldnt need touch any other voltages, give it a try

Thanks for all your input guys, I will try some of your suggestions out. The first H50 actually went pop after a week, and when I fitted the replacement a couple of weeks later I did a stress test with prime95 (I think) and the temps went into the danger zone.

I actually tried cleaning and re-seating it a few times but no luck. I am seriously considering going all out on a Haswell bundle come June as I am a heavy PC user and would get years of use from it....

I have a i5 750 running at a base clock of 175, turbo is still on and clocks up to 3.67ghz. I have also kept all power saving on and voltages are 1.248v.

I'm only using a £20 Arctic Cooler 7 (with IC diamond 24), and core temps normally keep under 65c. If your prepared to keep power saving on, and spend time finding lowest voltage you can keep temps pretty low.

I'm using a Gigabyte P55 UD2, if you happen to have the same board will give you settings.

JasonM can you tell me your settings for your system overclock

I have a ga p55 ud2 with 2x 4gb corsair 1333 ram and an i5 760 V8 watercooled cpu

I cant seem to keep mine stable, i did get it to about 3.4or6 cant remember the settings I had though, should have saved the profile lol

Was wondering what you set yours at ?
