hi all :)

Recently decided to build my first PC following an article in Custom PC mag. Here are my specs: Intel Core i5-750, Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2, 4gb Corsair Dominator ddr3, Antec NeoHE 430W PSU, Samsung 502HI HD, Antec Mini-P180 case, AC Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 cooling CPU plus 1x120mm and 1x200mm case fans.

All runs ok at stock speed running 30C at idle and 58C on prime95 small fft test. However, its when i start overclocking that i get problems, and i can't seem to work out why

I used the following settings from Custom PC mag to do the overclock up to 3.8ghz: Intel Turbo Boost disabled, Base Clock control enabled, BCLK 190mhz, System Memory Multiplier 8.0, Load-Line Calibration disabled, CPU V-core 1.45, QPI 1.35, PCH CORE 1.32 CPU PLL 2.00 DRAM voltage 1.600.

When running prime 95 no errors (temps about 80c - abit higher than i would like) are returned but the interface becomes unresponsive (no response to mouse movement or keyboard strokes). I normal use the it can also do the same. Sometimes the computer won't boot up at all. Any ideas? I figured i could just use the figures quoted in the mag and hey-presto, but apparently not...

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Hi mate, i have the same cpu as yourself.

I left everything in my bios at default, I just upped the cpu to 200 (multiplier is x20) and set the cpu voltage to 1.35v.

Everything worked fine. I would just try that first of all, although jumping straight to 200 might not be a good idea, try 180 first then go up in increments of 5, hopefully you should hit the 200 mark.

The voltage on mine at 1.3v would cause prime95 to fail but atm its set to ~1.35v and prime95 runs fine for 10 mins and hits the same temps as yours, upto 80C which I am slightly worried about. Mind you, it never even hits 60C for my use so I am not too concerned because I won't be sat running prime95 all day, it's just now to establish stability.

I would try my 'basic' method first, I am a novice a overclocking. :p
