i5 750

I hope this isn't a thread hijack, just seemed silly starting a new thread.

I'm torn between a i7 920 and an (overclocked) i5 750. If I only really care about performance in games (I don't care if winzip takes 5 seconds long to zip some files etc) then paired with a top end graphics card (prob 5870) would I see a difference between these CPUs?

depends if your planning on Xfire setup... if your staying with a single card theres no reason not to get a i5. if your going to go with Xfire then you will be wanting an i7

I thought that was the way it was. I always think that'd it'd be good to throw a second card in the machine, but I'd imagine I'd probably end up selling the card I have and just buying another powerful single card.

Thanks for your input.

I guess I'm missing something but I can't see why anyone would want an i7 860. Well, maybe those (non-overclockers) who buy a mobo for a i5 and then want to upgrade.

I actually saw last weeks offers, and as I write this I'm on my newly built i7 920 :)

But the i7 860 has HT so 'general tasks' are a bit quicker, but not too much.
