i5 760 any better to upgrade?

I've purchassed my i5 760 on July 2011. It has been working fine, been handling all games without any problems. According to what I know hardware should be changed every 6 months or 1 year as new comes out all the time. Is there any better than i5 760 for 1156 mobo, should I go for SandyBridge and change mobo as well?

I believe not (although somebody else can probably find something), but I would recommend getting a CPU/System monitor, and see if your CPU regularly hits 100% use. Also, if you are fine with your i5 but really want to upgrade, wait for Ivybridge for more ownage

why?

i have a Q6600, which is a generation behind yours, and i can still happily play my games.
Your i5-760 is still a very good cpu, have you overclocked it?
if not then please do, that will give you a boost in performance as well.

what is the main use of pc?
if its gaming, day to day usage etc..... then you are perfectly fine.
if its video editing, folding etc.... then you will see a small increase in performance going to a SB system (but i may be wrong, it could be a large increase)

but if you have the upgrade bug, then go for it,

I have OC it to 3.3Ghz works fine. I'm more gamer than normal user.

It's just the thing in my head that there might be something better than mine..

There's quite often something better but if what you have does what you need then there's no need to upgrade.

'best' chip for 1156 is i7 860 I believe but if all you do is game, there really is no need for it.

Well there is the i7 870 and the expensive and rare i7 880.

Best one is probably the i7 875K which is unlocked but they are also expensive if you can find them.

Only real benefit is hyper threading but that is not going to help gaming much as you say.

The i5 760 is an awesome cpu and I wouldn't mind one myself.

Depends if you're willing to go through the hassle. I managed a 1156 -> 1155 upgrade for around €70 quid after I sold my old stuff. It was worth it for that price I reckon.

Where did you hear that hardware should be changed every 6 months? A cpu should last 1.5 - 2.5 years imo.
