Is there any point in changing y processor as I want a bigger board I'm using Asus :(p 7 p 55m it's. A small board and want a full board

Hi there,

The i5 760 is a nice chip and if you feel the need to go for a full ATX type board (for more PCI-E ports/SLI/CF/better overclocking) then you could do a lot worse than sticking with the i5 760. It will certainly overclock well (aim for 4GHz).

That said, if you are sticking with the i5 760 then make sure you go for a LGA 1156 motherboard. The newer LGA 1155 boards are much more popular these days, but they won't work with your current CPU.

You could sell what you currently have and move over to a full-ATX P67/Z68 board (this is a good one) and a i5 2500K CPU. This would give you a performance boost in CPU-heavy tasks and it overclocks very well - however it would cost a fair bit more than just upgrading to a larger P55 board.

I guess it all depends on how much you want to spend and how much a performance boost is worth to you. May I ask what you use your system for?

its mainly for gaming i was gonna go for the z68a-gd55 as the pci slots are wider apart as my asus 6950 directcu11 is massive and takes 3pci slots my plan is to crossfire them so need big enough board.

The Z68A-GD55 is a LGA 1155 board which works with the new Sandy Bridge 2000 series CPUs. Unfortunately it is completely incompatible with an i5 760 (LGA 1156) CPU.

Though, if you plan to go for a LGA 1155 CPU (like the excellent i5 2500K - probably the best price/performance gaming CPU available) then a board like that Z68 MSI would be a good option.

also worth mentioning, if you want to go crossfire and stay on your i5 760, you'll need to look at the higher end 1156 boards out there. most mid to low end boards only run x-fire @ x4/x4 which will produce very very poor performance. you want a board that will run @ x8/x8 as a minimum. i myself managed to pick up a GA-P55A-UD6 on the MM for about 70 quid, so you can get a 2nd hand, x-fire board fairly cheaply

cheers guys i think im just gonna replace them both and have the i5 2500k and i try sell my board and 760 cheers for the help guys
