I5 7600k incorrect temperature readings

When my computer booted back up from sleep mode this morning the fans sped up and I noticed my cpu idle temps are ~ 86c and will hit over 100c on load.
Prior to booting this morning the idle temps would be ~36c and load temps were around 70c.
I am pretty sure that the reported temperatures I am seeing are incorrect.

System:
  • I5 7600k (no oc, except xmp profile)
  • Corsair Hydro Series H100i v2
  • Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (PC4-24000C15 3000MHz)
  • Asus ROG Strix Z270G (BIOS version 0701)
  • Samsung SM961 Polaris 512GB M.2-2880
  • Corsair RM Series RM850X
  • Asus GTX1060-6G

AIDA64 is reporting the following temps:
  • CPU cores & package all >80c
  • Motherboard ~34c
  • PCH ~40c
  • GPU Diod ~35c

What I have tried so far:
  • I have turned the computer on/off several times, put in back in and out of sleep mode; no change.
  • I have reseated the CPU and cooler, upon first loading into the BIOS I saw cpu temps of 23c, then I booted into the OS - and bang back up to ~80c. Now when in the bios I am seeing ~75c.
  • Tried re-setting & un-setting XMP profile no change.
  • Reset the bios settings.

I am in the process of updating the bios to latest version, I have uninstalled Asus AI suite & am re-installing Asus AI suite.
I do not have a spare CPU or motherboard i can switch over to test.

Has anybody heard of a similar issue ?
Does anybody have any suggestions of what else I can try?

Cheers

If it's not dodgy temp readings, it could be the AIO pump failing to work now and then. A cheap stock Intel cooler or similar would help verify that. Or if the pump cable is plugged into a motherboard fan header, check that header's RPM.

Yeah as Danny says, it's either a faulty sensor or a faulty corsair pump. With the PC running, feel the tubes, one should be warm, the other cool.
