I'm thinking of splashing the cash on an i5 12600k with DDR 5. Any ideas of how much more performance in games this would give me?

I'd wait for the 12700 (non K) to be released personally, as I think the 8 large cores will come in handy. Or, maybe see if there's much improvement for Zen 3D / whatever they decide to call it.
I'm sure the 12600K will still be a nice improvement though, over your i5 8400, if you don't wanna wait.
@jigger - You're at it again, the 10900K has less L3 cache than the 8 core 12700K and almost certainly, the base model 12700. Plus it uses the old Skylake core architecture, so you can ignore this.
He's the king of contradiction...
It is a good chip but it's slightly behind zen 3 which is slightly behind ADL.Look at the 10900K gaming performance. It’s one of the highest performance gaming chips available.

Not necessarily as gaming doesnt really need the high power limits.Which will all beat the cut down and locked Alder lake parts. Slightly more.

@jigger - I don't think he's remotely interested in buying a 10th gen CPU, but you don't care do you lol. But thanks, suggestion boy.
Do you mean upgrade from a 10700K to a 10900K? It's an OK upgrade (bit expensive and I'd need a better cooler) , but anyone with this CPU would get more bang for buck from a full system upgrade.
