Hi all.
I am in the process of upgrading a G4560 to on an Asus B250-Plus motherboard to an I5-9600K.

I had assumed that this CPU would work with this Motherboard.

When I try and power the machine on after adding new processor, I get nothing coming up. There are red lights in motherboard showing I do get power, but machine won't boot. I have removed all none essential devices / usb etc, but still no luck. I am not using a graphics card.

Do I need a graphics card with this CPU? Any other advise on how I might boot?

Thanks in advance.

Dave

You've assumed wrong there.

200 series boards only support 6th and 7th gen CPUS.

You'd need a 300 series board for that CPU. Z390 really for a good chance that it'll work out of the box.

Thanks for the quick reply. I think you are correct. I assumed socket LGA1151 worked for all CPUS. I guess I now need to decide change CPU or change motherboard.
It's often referred to as 1151v1 or 1151v2 for this reason.

It is possible you could find an unofficial BIOS that supports the CPU, but it was a long time ago I looked into that and it might require a pin mod too.
