Hey,

Got a budget of around £650 for a new rig.. Thought making it i5-based would be the most effective use of my money.. :)

Only need the following:

  • Processor
  • CPU Fan (never use Stock fans)
  • Motherboard
  • RAM
  • Power Supply
  • Case

Here is my build I chose myself, any comments or alterations? :)

Thanks. :)

Thanks for the comments guys.. :) Taken them on board and shuffled the build around, also noticed with the i7 retail version on offer for £199.99 I could change the CPU+Mobo+RAM for another £60 and get an i7 rig.. Also I added the Antec PSU as well..

Thoughts now? :)

The last one there has triple channel ram, for the i7-900 processors.

I'd get THESE :)

Not quite sure I follow, sorry if I'm being dumb.. The first spec I had shown was an i5-base rig so therefore it had Dual Channel RAM in it.. The second spec I had shown in my previous post was now i7-based as I could go from i5-orientated to i7 for a small fee with the required Triple Channel RAM?

Thanks.

Aha.. After reading around though a few reviews say the difference between the i5 and i7 is very marginal.. So I thought I'd go back to the i5 and add some Scythe fans and stuff for the H50 radiator.. Still unsure wheither I should go back to the i7 based rig or does this look good enough? Hah.

Thanks for the advice so far guys, managed to bump the price down a bit and make a few alterations.. :)

How's this then so far? Still considering wheither to go and change the CPU+Mobo+RAM to i7-based or keep it as an i5? I'm still convinced the i5 is more feasible..

Also, it will be used mainly for gaming and no other intense applications..

The MKII of the CM 690 is another £22, while the Lancool case is another £15.. I would've got the MKII of the CM 690 but it's out of stock and also something about it makes me unsure if I want that case.. It's also £92.. :/

What made you pick the Lancool case as a suggestion? :)

Thanks.

EDIT:
After some review reading and research, I actually quite like the Lancool case.. Haha.. I've put that in now.. :D

Right, this is my final basket.. Any more changes? ;) Haha.

Yes there is a router in there as well as my household is in dire need of a more advanced home-router that isn't **** and drops connection constantly, or give me a **** low sync rate when I know my phone line is more than capable of higher speeds and so forth.. :)

That's £771.. I get shipping free..

You don't need the psu extension cable.

I have that very psu, cables are long enough for my ATCS840 case.

Alright, just heard sometimes the PSU cables aren't long enough to route behind the back to keep the cables neat.. :D

Now, the PSU extension cable aside, that okay? ;)

Out of curiosity, what GPU are you sticking in it? Better be worth while ;) :p

My old 4870 1GB.. Why? :p ..

Can't quite afford to buy a new GPU like the 5850 or anything yet.. :) May invest in a new GPU another time when NVIDIA and ATI bring out their next wave of graphics cards..

Could you post some pics of your build?

Im intrigued to see what those cimflex magnetic dust filters look like because i wasted my money on those crappy akasa dust filters and now it doesnt fit with my fan, wot a load of rubbish.

Sure thing.. :)

Probably won't even get the order delivered till end of this week probably or the start of the week after.. We will have to see.. ;)

So finally ordered it last night, had to make a few alterations as I had to adjust my budget slightly.. But overall I'm quite happy with the purchase, look forward to it.. :) I know I had to change some things like the PSU and case, but I kept my CPU/Mobo/RAM/Cooler combination as I really wanted to keep these..

Thoughts? :D

Bought it on finance, ordered it Monday night, printed the finance contract and posted it first thing at 9.30am on the Tuesday and selected the delivery date as tomorrow (Thursday) as it's the only day I don't have a day shift (working evening/night on Thurs) so I would be in for delivery for Thursday.. But it seems they still haven't received the letter (the finance company Hitachi Capital) and confirmed my order for dispatch to Overclockers as my order status still says "D_HCA" and it won't be confirmed, sent and delivered to me all by tomorrow I'm going to presume..

Ugh, what am I meant to do now? :/ If they try deliver it on the Friday I won't even be in...

It is to be delivered by the DHP Courier, and I think my nearest depo to collect from is Lincoln which is over an hour drive..

I may re-adjust and get it delivered for Monday and get someone to be in the house to take delivery..

Have someone stand by for the delivery if not then DPD will just post it to your next door neighbour :)

Typical excitment for big deliveries :)

I can't unfortunately.. :( But I've sorted it now and spoke to Oc and re-arranged delivery for Monday were I can have someone in to take delivery.. :)

Didn't think they would leave it with a next door neighbour? I mean what if I didn't like my neighbours, don't want them in posession of £600 of stuff I've ordered..? Baha.. :p Fortunately I get on and know well all of my neighbours.. But nevermind! Will be delivered to my house on Monday.. :D

Hit 4GHz straight of the bat, easy as ! :D .. Idles at 30-35c (in a fairly warm room), max temps of 60-65c at full load, 100% on all cores.. Love it, very impressed. ;)
