As title states I would like to know if it's possible to build a I5 rig for £300 no operating system needed, just the desktop.

Need it for a on a budget.

Thanks

Will be fairly difficult as the i5 is £150 or more, and a decent hard drive is around £50. that leaves just £100 for the case, psu, motherboard and ram. (not enough for gpu) Optical drive would add another £20 too
An i3 would be much more reasonable at this price point.

The OP doesn't say it is to replace his current computer, for all we know it is a new build for someone else.

by all means if the OP has spare components, use them, but those should be stated as available ;)

You can do it easily, the i5 3450 can be had for £140 + £40 mobo + 20 RAM - that leaves you £100 for everything else which is plenty especially when you can get those Case + free PSU for £23 - you could do it for £250 if you shopped around

And why would you want a cheap PSU and case
You a £40 mobo would have to be H61 so you would need to find out the motherboard revision.

You would be surprised how many people ask for a "desktop" and don`t realise that they can reuse some of there existing components.
Which is why i specced cpu, mobo and ram, to be used with existing parts, as an example.
