I welcome any comments

rig will be used for gaming, xna and business software dev (multiproject solutions in vs2005/2008/2010 and black shark/gta4/crysis/stalker are most pressing performance concerns)
(running 2x 1680x1050 monitors)

(I know the 470 is good alternative but I don't like them)

for the price of that GTX460, you may as well get a GTX470 and just not ever worry if you have enough power to run the latest games at max settings.

or, save £30 and buy a cheaper GTX460 1gb - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-092-MS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1830

and change the black drives for two of these seagates - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-206-SE&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=940 - £50 saved.

and finally, this psu is the same wattage, still modular, made by seasonic and cheaper

thanks for ideas - the cyclone is good
XFX psu makes me nervous
I could survive with 64gb SSD but with 128gb my whole system can be ssd with disks just for backups and torrents

just realised that win7pro + software raid1 with ssd = raid with trim (not possible with hardware raid)

blacks are expensive [edit] and they seem quite slow now I check ...

I just switched from i7 to i5 after realising that it makes little difference IRL

470 decision is a nightmare - I might use spare GTS250 and wait for GTX475 to come out

thanks again - back to the basket for me

no need to be nervous of the XFX psu's, they are made by seasonic, same as the HX corsair range is, and the Antec new truepower range.

as for the hardrive question,
you can compare these 1tb results for the black with 64mb cache and sata3.0 interface against the samsung F3

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/storage/display/1tb-2tb-roundup-2_3.html#sect0 has the black in its results.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/storage/display/1tb-hdd-roundup-3.html has the samsung F3 in it.

im sure the results are comparable coming from the same website, and being of the same capacities, in fact the 640gb Black surely doesnt even have 500gb platters like the Seagate and Samsung?

so its platter density is lower per square inch.

but they are not good reviews!

they are just trying to get some market share with little effort - buying up low grade seasonic rejects and putting them in nice boxes with good looking fans

very nervous :-)
