Hi guys, just thought I would share my i5 build with you. I decided to upgrade from my Q9650 build (specs are still in my sig for now). I didn't really need to but you all know how it is when you get the upgrade itch :D. Anyway I placed an order today for the following:

Gigabyte GA-P55-UD5 Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard

Intel Core i5 750 2.66Ghz (Lynnfield) (Socket LGA1156) - OEM + Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising Game

Geil Ultra Series 4GB (2x2GB) PC3-17000 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (GU34GB2133C9DC)

Zalman CNPS10X-Quiet CPU Cooler (754/939/940/AM2/AM2+/AM3/775/1156/1366)

I picked the order up from the shop a couple of hours later.

Anyway on with the build.

Collection of parts. Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising comes as a key code to use with Steam. Geil RAM comes in a black anti-static bag rather than retail packaging, I think there's a thread in the memory section of the forum that mentions that. Zalman heatsink will be used temporarily until a bracket comes out for the Prolimatech Megahalems that I would like to use.

Motherboard with the Geil ram, i5 750 and the bracket for the heatsink installed.

Geil RAM matches nicely with the motherboard.

All the parts installed in my Silverstone Fortress.

Then came the moment to turn it on. Press the button and it comes to life, then immediately switches off. Cue moment of panick. Had a look to see if all the cables were in, which they were. Thought I would take a stick of RAM out, which didn't work. Tried the same stick in the white RAM slot, turned it on and it booted up. Put the other RAM stick in the other white slot and its been working fine since. I've no idea why they wouldn't work in the blue slots.

The i5 750 seems to run cooler than my Q9650 although it is still running at stock speeds. Idle temps were as low as 21c on the cores according to coretemp. I'm not entirely sure if thats accurate though as the ambient temp is 21c in my room. I don't know what the load temps are as yet as I haven't got around to running Prime95/IBT.

Looking nice mate. Nice looking board as well. Probably didn't work in the blue slots, as if it's like the GA-EX58-UD5 (1366 mobo) the blue slots are slots 2-4. And the RAM needs to be in 1-3 for the first sets, and for it to boot ^^

Hope that clears that up. Should say somewhere in the manual =)

And jammy for getting the Operation Flashpoint code =p

Oh yeah so it does. Note to self, read the manual before you think you know how to install everything :p. Thanks for the comments so far guys.

Just did a quick 30min run of Prime95 Blend to get an idea of the load temps. This is running at stock.

Just a small update. I got some new goodies today. Finally manged to get hold of a Prolimatech Megahalems with a 1156 bracket. I also managed to get some Enermax Cluster fans to pair with it.

The Enermax Clusters are really quiet when the PC is idle and I can only just hear them when I put the PC under load i.e games, Prime95 etc. I also fitted some Acoustipack underneath where the HDD caddy is.

Sweet build! I'm gonna post some piccies of my Black Widow when I get my digital camera back off my ex-wife :D

Nice setup. ;) I'm currently collecting similar components - got the fortress case, a 2nd hand 2002C smart drive enclosure and waiting for the shadow version of the Prolimatech Megahalems to come out. Are you looking at putting any lighting in?
I'm also looking at how I can dremel a slit so I can easily remove the top fan filter. Oh, and I'll be cutting a hole in the motherboard for rear CPU access :D

Really nice mate, i5 is the way to go. Like Neovo said, mobo looks fantastic. Post a pic with the side pannel on and at night, I want to see how the l.e.d.s look like in her.

Thanks for the comments guys.

dude sent u a trust email, just remember to reply to the adress i sent or u will reply to ocuk no reply

Just replied to your email address although unfortunately it won't be the answer that your looking for. Sorry about that.

I'll have a go at getting a pic tomorrow night for you. I did have a quick go but the led's are that bright it's hard to get any detail and that was with just the rear fan lit up :D

I don't think I'll put any lighting in, I have the led's on the fans switched off at the moment. I only really bought the fans as they look a whole lot better than the pink and brown of the Noctua's. They have the added bonus of being really quiet as well. Make sure you put some pics up of your build, I'd be interested to see how you get on with making the rear of the motherboard easier to access and the idea for the top fan filter.

very very nice. i think the blue slots didnt work becuase they might be slot 4 and slot 2 so they'll only work when slot 1-3 is already filled

My build is going to be very similar, I'm just worried the cooler will be too big for the RAM :( ( Might be upping it to 8gb)

What do you think, could I squeeze this on to the blue ram slots ?
