Hi guys, just thought I would share my i5 build with you. I decided to upgrade from my Q9650 build (specs are still in my sig for now). I didn't really need to but you all know how it is when you get the upgrade itch . Anyway I placed an order today for the following:
Gigabyte GA-P55-UD5 Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard
Intel Core i5 750 2.66Ghz (Lynnfield) (Socket LGA1156) - OEM + Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising Game
Geil Ultra Series 4GB (2x2GB) PC3-17000 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (GU34GB2133C9DC)
Zalman CNPS10X-Quiet CPU Cooler (754/939/940/AM2/AM2+/AM3/775/1156/1366)
I picked the order up from the shop a couple of hours later.
Anyway on with the build.
Collection of parts. Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising comes as a key code to use with Steam. Geil RAM comes in a black anti-static bag rather than retail packaging, I think there's a thread in the memory section of the forum that mentions that. Zalman heatsink will be used temporarily until a bracket comes out for the Prolimatech Megahalems that I would like to use.
Motherboard with the Geil ram, i5 750 and the bracket for the heatsink installed.
Geil RAM matches nicely with the motherboard.
All the parts installed in my Silverstone Fortress.
Then came the moment to turn it on. Press the button and it comes to life, then immediately switches off. Cue moment of panick. Had a look to see if all the cables were in, which they were. Thought I would take a stick of RAM out, which didn't work. Tried the same stick in the white RAM slot, turned it on and it booted up. Put the other RAM stick in the other white slot and its been working fine since. I've no idea why they wouldn't work in the blue slots.
The i5 750 seems to run cooler than my Q9650 although it is still running at stock speeds. Idle temps were as low as 21c on the cores according to coretemp. I'm not entirely sure if thats accurate though as the ambient temp is 21c in my room. I don't know what the load temps are as yet as I haven't got around to running Prime95/IBT.
