I5 cope with 3 monitors?

Hi, got it installed yesterday but had issues with my 6950's touching, causing the top card's fan to stop. More here; http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18402694

On the plus side, the 3570k is now running @ 4.2 without any issues so far. Also treated myself to a Crucial M 128GB SSD and all I can say is wow. Windows installed in 6minutes and photoshop runs like a dream:)

Nice,

How is gaming?

I think I might overclock mine. now sure though LOL. I've never overclocked a cpu manually so..

Not tried gaming yet, but to be honest it was great before, so I'm sure its gonna be awesome now.

Overclocking is extremely simple at that speed. My cpu voltage is only set to 1.175 and the RAM is using an XMP profile. I've not really had time to tinker yet as it appears I bought the enthusiasts motherboard, and its been a few years now since i messed with serious overclocking!

All I can recommend is having a search on the forum or through google for people with the same board and cpu as you and go from there. Just start light to begin with:)

I found the other one first, as it was in the Monitors board, so i posted my question there.
Now we can all benefit from sharing information between these two threads :)

Hello,
i might be wrong, but i think that if you use the splitter cable you will see the same image on both screens.
If you wanted to display different things on your TV than on the other monitor, then i think you would need a splitter box, which provides "the equivalent" of one graphic card for each screen. In fact, i think it "lies" to the computer and tells it that these two screens are just one big screen.

* * *
Myself, i'm going for 3 monitors too, but i'm just building my computer now so i'm trying to choose the right components to do that, without needing a splitter box.

I'm planning to use the HD4000 onboard graphics of a i5-3570K processor, with a Z77X-UD5H motherboard which had 3 digital outputs : DVI, HDMI, and DP (DisplayPort).
=> QUESTION : Would it work if i simply plugged each monitor on each of these 3 outputs ?
(or, i guess i could use a DP to DVI adapter, if i didn't want to try and find a screen with DP input)

I'm not playing any games, so i don't need the power of a particularly good GPU.

Another question : is it uncomfortable in your experience, to not have exactly the same three screen ? That would enable me to have one with a DP input (probably more expensive), with two cheaper ones.

PS : there is another thread on the same subject here, in the "CPU" board : http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18402239

You have to use a display adapter for the back for the third monitor. I was told before that the GPU itself can only support up to two then the third has to be plugged into the display port if that what you are asking.

And the computer does see it as one large monitor in a way because CCC tells it that if it's CCC you are using. I don't know anything about Nivida :s LOL

CBrooksC, is it this information you are referring to ? :
Unfortunately that won't work - since the DVI/HDMI ports can only support a maximum of two monitors running at the same time.

Therefore, you will need to use an active displayport adapter like this to run all three monitors at the same time.

So if i understand well, only two DVI and HDMI outputs are supported simultaneously. But the DisplayPort output can be used "independently", and provide the third monitor.
This would mean that i can plug my three monitors without needing an additional GPU.

Do i understand right ?

Does the DisplayPort not go through the ATI CCC (Catalyst Control Center), like the two others?

ARG. From the other thread :
One other interesting addition to Intel HD 4000 Graphics is the ability to drive triple monitors. Unfortunately some limitations exist and only motherboards supporting two DisplayPort outputs and one other output would allow you to use three monitors.
So, i would need a motherboard with 2 DP outputs... and the screens that would go with.

This makes me think that if i don't find such a motherboard in my price range, i should probably get a graphic card just for the additional monitor. One more component to choose. ARG (^c^)

lol so i gave it a go. i used the extreme tuning utility.all I changed was the multiplier, i got it too 4.5 before blue screened lol. but i noticed no difference in fps. i might just leave it at stock :)

edit: Didn't check at the time but does anyone know if when just changing the multiplier that the voltages change?
Because I read somewhere that with the ivy bridge it changes itself according to your settings

i dont want to break it

I run my 3 screens off my top 6950. One using display port and the other two using DVI. No extra configuration is required as they're auto detected.

Hi

Apologies for jumping in but this is the only place I've started to get some proper info on pretty much the exact problem I'm having.

I've just installed a Sapphire 6950 to get three monitors but am not having any joy when two are connected via DVI and the third on display port. The display port connected monitor flashes up the desktop for a second or two at a time, otherwise it remains black. Sometimes it goes into energy save but then comes out of it again after a few seconds.

If I connect that monitor via DVI it's fine but then this obviously means that one of the other monitors (neither are display port capable) have to be disabled, so back to only two monitors.

When I read about you running three monitors, two DVI and one on display port, I wondered if there was something I was doing wrong. The display port monitor is a Dell 2412M, brand new, as is the card. When connected via the display port lead it detects the monitor, fires it up and it displays all of the bios screens plus the starting windows screen, but after that it immediately goes to black and starts switching the desktop image on occasionally.

As a test I disconnected the lead and put it back in which forced the monitor into 640x480, which although is no use to me it did at least stay solid with no flickering at all. I couldn't change the resolution via the Catalyst control center, it was locked to 640 x 480. Once I'd disconnected and connected the lead again it went back to 1920x1200 but the flickering started again.

I've read that people have got round the issue by converting the display port connection on the card to DVI, which I'm fine with if it gets a third monitor up and running, but would like to get it working with via the direct display port to display port connection if possible.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Have you gone onto CCC and set all the desktop managments to duplicate the first monitor?
Then gone to eyefinity and created a display group?
