Does anyone know if I can as a short term measure cool an i5 6600k, at stock speed with the fan from the i5 750? I have got everything for my new build, just stuck on deciding on CPU cooler and want to check everything is working.

Just the fan or the whole unit including the heatsink? Trying to fit a HSF from a 750 might be a bit tricky as the mounting wholes won't be the same as and modern socket although you could try holding in place with cable ties.

The mounting holes have remained the same distance apart through socket 1156, 1155, 1150 and 1151. If anything the cooler from the 750 will be bigger than the current ones so should cool better. The newer coolers are tiny.

Well, bit embarrassing, turns out, trying to do it in poor light in a smallish case wasn't the best idea, hadn't properly connected one of the cables, had input it with par connected part not. How hum, anyway, fan seems to work on CPU.
