I5 CPUs

it's all about pciexpress gen support. They saying GEN4 is only for 11th Intels... so if you want FAST m2 ssd... it's better to go with 10th 10500 ...

is a i5-8500 still good enough for the newer line of gpus or should I look to upgrade that first?
What resolution / fps target do you have?

If it's 1080p / 60 fps for example and not the few AAA games that hammer 6 cores without HT, then yes, it's generally still good enough.

At the minute really just cs/valorant, maybe a bit of doom eternal because I'm a bit limited on my 1080 or was til it died haha
i5-8500
some atx asus board not sure which
16gb corsair 3200ram
500gb ssd
until recently 1080 zotac mini
750w corsair psu

I've got a 240hz 1080p monitor recently as was looking to get a 3000 series at the same time but it's looking like a whole new pre build is going to be the only way
as you're coming from a 1080 (rip), there isn't a lot of GPUs that makes a true upgrade, unfortunately

Fair play then matey, I mean I recently got gifted BF5 so I want to play that with the textures up high but we can only dream for now xD I did like my 1080 even for a tiny one as well it did the job for years haha

If you want a cheap upgrade then the 8700 (non-k) would be an excellent drop in replacement.
It's available for £150 used from the website of that well known used trader on the high street

What's wrong with your 1080?

Maybe someone on the forums can help, some very knowledgable people on here. (not me :p)

Can you RMA it? (5yr warranty)

I'm not sure on the warranty as It was bought through a pre build years ago by a friend and also one day the dvi stopped working, a few months later the display port and hdmi, now it just doesn't even turn on xD

It couldn't have picked the worser time to die with the GPU availability and price situation we have.
Prices are just nuts.
And except for very salty priced models availability is really bad.

Zero sense in paying for very expensive drives, if at the same time going for just standard level CPU.

Besides problem is in coding of games and PCIe v3 SSDs not being fast enough to have good loading times:
https://www.realhardwarereviews.com/silicon-power-us70-1tb-review/11/
(though test CPU being 24 core Threadripper might have had part in fast loading times)

I know it's a pain I can't pay hundreds for a card I basically got for pennies xD, I just don't get why the ports were slowly dying off and not just packed in It's never been above about 60c so heat couldn't have been the issue?

I'm trying to get either a 3070 or 3080 hopefully but I refuse to pay double the prices for one, I'd rather get a pre order from somewhere even if it takes months at rrp but you can't even do that anymore, I was meaning more once I do find a card is my older cpu going to cause any major bottlenecks? It's not gonna start crashing is it? xD

No its not going to start crashing or even be a huge bottleneck, you won't get the most out of your GPU at 1080P but you'll be fine.
