So.. I've torn my crutiate ligament and meniscal cartliage... and am bed/house-bound for a while.... every cloud/silver lining and all that - I can catch-up on some gaming whilst immobile!

I am looking for suggestions for my laptop which is quite restricted graphics wise:

A laptop, win7 4gb - I5 M520 chip @2.4ghz - so am restricted with the CPU using onboard CPU graphics rather than a dedicated graphics card.

I'm pretty open gaming wise... normally am an RPG/FPS on my PC, but am thinking an RTS may be better for bed-play - less intense!

Does anyone have any suggestions that may fit the spec of my machine and not be flatout intense?

:)

lol... re-reading that, a few 'I's wouldn't have gone amiss.

It's my work laptop - I don't have a great deal on the I5m gaming capabilities, this is about as detailed as it gets:

A feature of the new Core i5-520M is the integrated graphics card called GMA HD and memory controller. Both are on a separate die that is still manufactured in 45nm whereas the CPU die is already manufactured in the new 32nm process.

The integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD (GMA HD) graphics card is known to be clocked up to 500-766 MHz and should be clearly faster than the old GMA 4500MHD. A GeForce 9400M (ION) should still be a faster (especially as Nvidia and ATI cards have a better driver support than Intel up to now). According to rumors, the GMA core will also use the Turbo Mode regulate the clock speed.

It could run Oblivion, Gothic 3 and below, The Witcher, Dragon Age Origins, Two Worlds, Kingdom of Amalur (on low settings).

Not too sure what other RPG's it could run, sadly games like Skyrim and The Witcher 2 are still extremely demanding on the lowest settings (well, for the purpose of this thread :p).

You could run most things pre-2007 on max (without the flashy DX features due to no DX10 support) and a lot of things from today on medium or below.

If you want something addictive to absolutely sap all your time, try Total War: Shogun 2 or Total War: Rome GOLD. You'll be able to run the latter on max, and the former on medium or maybe low. Graphics means nothing in those games anyway.

Cheers guys... had forgotten about minecraft... I've not yet dipped into that - a good call.

The timesapping is exactly what I am after! Will check out the total war games also.

Some suggestions:

RTS: C&C3, Warhammer: Dawn of War, Railroad Tycoon 2, Theme Hospital, Rollercoaster Tycoon, C&C: The First Decade...

FPS: CSS, L4D1+2, FEAR

Other: World of Tanks.

Just a few. :)

Timesapping but different genres:

Football Manager but I'm guessing if you don't already play it it's not your cup of tea

Also, Open source version of Transport Tycoon is a game that eats time and will run (and is free!) - you don't need the original game, they've created their own gfx files etc

There is also a free open source version of the original Sid Meier's Colonization that I enjoyed but it's not as polished.

I reckon your laptop would manage Empire Total war on low gfx settings. My laptop from 2008 copes alright. That game has something like 200hours on my steam account. Make the world England!

Company of Heroes? Maybe on lowish settings or even medium (its old now)... definately a time sapper either in SP or MP... if you have any interest in WWII this game is a must tbh

Every time I play this I end up with a cold cup of coffee or a beer that lasts for ages as it sucks the time from your life.. (in a good way :p)

Other games that are good that should run and will pass the time:

Torchlight,
Plants Vs Zombies,
Monkey Island games,
Portal? I have a spare copy if you have steam installed I could gift it to you.
Defence Grid - The Awakening
Terraria??
Maybe some of the old Broken Sword series would be good?

Hope you recover soon :)
