i5 not posting when oc'd

Basically, no matter what I do I can't get my new i5 to even post when overclocked. I have tried numerous settings, running the memory at slower than standard speeds, plenty of voltage, C1E and ESIT disabled and nothing. It just restarts 3 times then says overclock failed.

Anyone have any advice?

Spec is as follows:-

i5 760
Corsair XMS3 1600mhz C9
XFX 850W Pro psu
MSI P55-GD65 mobo


EDIT: Just used XMP overclocking and it's booted fine at 3.6ghz 1.32v according to cpu-z. Would I be right in assuming the memory isn't set up right in this case?

You say plenty of voltage, can you give us examples of the voltages you are using?

tried various levels of core volts, from 1.2 through to 1.42v and it still will not post, even at 3.2ghz. This is why I believe there's something wrong somewhere, as the memory XMP profile boots the pc perfectly fine at 3.6ghz 1.32v core

PLL is at 1.8v
PCH at 1.25v
DRAM at 1.65v

I'm even dropping ratio's to run the memory at 1200ish mhz to see if that helps, nothing doing.

Also, as I said it loads windows perfectly fine using the ram XMP, and temps in IBT dont pass 60 degrees so I fail to see how heat could be an issue

Interesting that you say that as I have a new MSI P55A-GD65 motherboard and the same RAM and CPU - trying to manually adjust the CPU voltage on a moderate overclock and it fails no matter what I type in (cpu-z shows the voltage as not being anywhere near what I entered in the bios). Only way to get it to overclock is by setting the volts to Auto in the bios but that puts 1.4V on the CPU @3.4ghz - seems to drop to 1.38V after 20 mins or so of Prime95 (Vdroop??). Won't go any higher so could be a crap CPU.

Gonna give the XMP a try and see if that makes any difference as the memory is set at 1.65v with default timings and the speed is well below the default 1600mhz.

You dont mention your QPI/VTT volts - what's that set to when you try manually vs what XMP sets? Here's my settings if they're of any use...

Figured it out! After trying countless different voltage/clock combo's I was flicking through cpu-z and noticed my BIOS was released in November 2009! So a quick flash and all problems are solved.

I bloody hate the MSI fan control though. It seems it judges cpu temps from tcase, and not tcore like the Asus board in my other rig =/
