Hello,

I currently have a self build i7 920 system which is fine but I have itchy fingers and want to build a new rig.
My criteria this time is to build a power sysyem in a small quiet package. I'm not a gamer and so I don't need too much in the way of a graphics card but I can't decide on the cpu.
- Price is not much of a factor
- Deep down I know the i5 will be acceptable for my needs
- I won't be doing any extreme overclocking
- The i7-2700K and the i5-2500K both have a TDP of 95W

My guess is that the i7 will stay cooler when working the same load as the i5 - is this logical? Purely from a heat management point of view which CPU is going to best to keep cool in a smaller case without too much noise?

thanks

I don't think the i7 will be any cooler under the same load unless what your doing can utilise hyperthreading, probably best to take the i5 then spend the £100 saving on some better quality fans or psu that will make more difference to the overall build
