i5 or i7

I'm going to be building a computer, that will be used for playing all sorts of games and some minor graphic designs

Is it worth paying the extras and getting the 3rd gen I7 over the 2nd gen I5.

What graphic designs do you create and which software do you use?

First off I will be using GIMP but I may move on to Photoshop at a later date.

It's the gaming I really want it for.

I'm also in the same boat, I'll be mainly hardcore gaming with a bit of video encoding with handbrake.
Currently deciding between the:
Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge)
or
Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50GHz (Ivybridge)

Can you provide any reasons (technical or otherwise) other than "the i5 will just do" of why to choose the i5 over the i7?
