Need a bit of advice re overcloock on my i5.

Upgraded last night to an i5 2500k on an Asrock Extrene4 Gen 3 m/board with a Corsair H80 cooler

Used the 'auto' overclock feature which incrased the turbo multiplier to 48 and left all the voltages etc on auto.

When runing Intel BurnTest the temps were hitting 80*c, so I dropped the turbo to x40, but I'm still hitting 75*c which seems high to me.

Should I be dropping voltages to reduce temps?

I've checked the cooler and it all appeard to be seated correctly (idle temps are about 30 which i think sounds about right as my heating is on right now).

I think the auto overclock is probably using too high vcore.

How about try resetting the setting to default, and then just change the multiplier from 33 to 40, save and exit the bios? 4.0GHz should be doable on stock voltage.

I think re-setting to default and starting over will be best.

One thought was the CPU cooler may not be fitted correctly, but if this was the case I would think the idle temps would also be high.

It's now sorted... I was very late last night when i finnished the install so was obviously not paying attention when fiddling in the bios. I've now set the turbo to 44 and every thing else on auto - voltage is now lower and temps about 60*c on prime95 & IBT. Also the H80 is running fans much slower so its nice & quiet as well.
