Im looking at upgrading my MB, Memory and CPU and a i posted on here a few months ago where someone suggested what to get with the budget i was on, I chose not to order due to the IVYbridge CPU was on its way here. However i have my basket ready and on the 31st of may im looking at purchasing the goods the person listed apart from the dual core i3 cpu.

Im looking at the I5 Quad but stuck to what to get. Looking at the Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor , its more expensive and seems to be a better cpu according to the discription then the Intel Core i5-3550 3.30GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W).

As the IVYBRIDGE is new out, i would have thought the newer technology would be better? Or is it better?

sandybridge

Im a gamer, web designer and use a lot of heavy programmes like Maya 3d, Photoshop and After effects, i want the right CPU for the job and so far, looking at the specs im thinking more towards the Sandybrige as its HD Graphics is 3000.

Could you also explain what the Lithography Process is and what it does.

Many thanks

Andy

Also if you're not ordering until the 31st be sure to check what you're buying as there will be different offers on by then which you'll want to make the most of :)

If its for photoshop i would reccomend going with a i7 as it has hyper threading and has HD4000 graphics. Do you have a graphics card?

The I7 is pretty much out of my price range at the moment and is probably something id upgrade to later on in the year. The GFX i have is the MSI R6870

Oh deffo, i'l be sure to check out the deals before i purchase :P

Cheers for the replys guys

I think the information you posted is wrong. The 3570k ivybridge has HD 4000 graphics, which is meant to have significantly better performance than HD 3000 on the Sandybridge. So ivybridge would be the better choice in your situation.

Edit: Just realised you were talking about the 3550! So yes the 2500k would be better, i would still suggest considering the 3570k though.

I just ordered a 3570k and considered the 2500k. Since they're both the same price it's a no-brainer. If the 2500k was £20 or more quid cheaper I would've gotten that.

How many more times does this question have to get asked? There must be a 100+ topics on this by now.

My appolgies, i did search the names of the topics but found nothing in question to what i wanted to know. I do apologise.

It gives you an idea of the structure size on the chip. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/22_nanometer for 22nm. Your other questions seem to have been answered.

Thank you for that arad85 i will go check out the link now..

Thank you all for your replys, Your replys have been a big help

Kind Regards
