any eta on this chip, the 920 version ?

Waiting to upgrade from my e5200 to i5, primarily for folding and encoding. I dont need / cant afford i7 and ideally need a quieter cooler, less cores = more efficiency (cooling) = quieter :)

Why do you think i5 will be a lot cheaper? You'll still need a £200 motherboard for it, and these newer CPUs run hot as hades.

Yeah for sure LGA1156 boards will be a hell of a lot cheaper than the LGA1366. What is meant by the 920 version? As far as I'm aware none of the LGA1156 chips have model numbers yet.

they will most definately be cheaper but by the time they are out Intel are planning on releasing their 32Nm Westmere chips on the LGA 1366 so personally i don't see the point in getting one.

This platform will be more expensive then core2, the performance will be inbeween core2 and i7. If AMD cant compete with it on performance, then it will be a lot more expensive then it should be.

Core2/Ph2 seem to be the sweet spot for current games, i cant see i5 having any real advantage. People can just skip it for i7 if they want quicker then core2 for extreme multi gpu setups.

The motherboards for i5 should be cheaper considering there is only 1 chip comprising north & south bridges. Hopefully we will also see single PCI-E 2.0 lane boards for the average PC. Also as SATA 3 wont be on these boards, the price should be even lower, assuming all the major brands put out multiple motherboards for the i5, it should make the market more competitive than i7 and keep the costs to a minimum.

Well they will be replacing 775 slowly but surely. The only thing that is un certain is how quick the transition will be. After Q3 2009 Intel don't have any new 775 boards on thier roadmap.

Jurys still out if its gonna be more greener then the core i7s I thought ?

Hopefully is a lot more cheaper mind u its like people say by the time there out Core i7s will be cheaper and more in demand/stock then ever.

Hopefully the CPUs can be overclocked, as previous reports indicated that the i5's wouldnt be, otherwise the i7 would be a harder sell.
