i5 v i7 - Better for Gaming?

This has probably been done before, but what is better for Gaming, an i5 or an i7.. from what i've read a lot more people recommend the i5 for gaming over an i7 but why? with the i7 having more cores etc would it not be a more worthy processor.

If i was to recommend someone a cpu for it id say the i5 due to this forum and the info on it, but can someone with more knowledge on the topic tell me the differences etc? :p:) ty!
 
The i7 8xx series of CPUs is essentially the same as the i5 7xx series except they have HyperThreading. However, the increase in cost to get HyperThreading (£217 vs £141) is usually not justifiable for a gamer today, so the i5 is recommended more often.
