I'm just giving a friend advice on a new laptop purchase.

She is looking at a £500 i5 laptop with 8Gb ram and a 1Tb hdd

or

An i3 laptop with 4Gb ram and 500Gb laptop for £250

But with the i3 she could get a Samsung Evo SSD for about £120.

What you reckon?

I suggest the i3 with ssd as I think it'll be a more balanced system.
The i3 can easily all browsing, media consumption, word processing and spreadsheet tasks. It will be slower for video encoding but not unbearably so.

The ssd will make it feel far more responsive than a hdd and the benefits of 8GB over 4GB are probably unnoticeable in day to day use.
