Well that would depend a lot on the graphics card being used.

If something fairly decent, then yes there would be a difference in most games.

If only running a low end card then it wouldn't matter how fast a processor you stuck in the graphics card would be a bottleneck.

I used to have a Core i5 750 and sold that and replaced it with a Core i3 540 and with that running at 3.6ghz all my games play just the same as they were with the i5 750.

First question is...is there any reason you are looking at 1156 CPU...like you already got a socket 1156 motherboard or something?

Cause if you are getting everything from scratch, you should really be looking at SandyBridge (socket 1155) instead of the older socket 1156 platform, as they are quite a bit faster, and cost are around the same.
