i will be upgrading my mobo and cpu soon, i understand that the i5 is a duel cpu and the i7 is a quad core.

my question is, is it worth paying the extra for the i7? will i notice a difference between the two?

my current pc i use as a multimedia center playing blu-rays from disc and hdd and playing games.

i am running my pc on a samsung 40" LCD full hd tv.

many thanks

Some of the i5s are dual core, but some of them are not. It's confusing and stupid, but basically the i3 series are all dual core with hyperthreading but without turbo boost, the i5 6xx series are dual core with hyperthreading, and the i5 7xx series are quad core (without hyperthreading). The i7s are all quad core with hyperthreading, and those are available on socket 1156 (i7 8xx series) and socket 1366 (i7 9xx).

Tbh the best price point right now IMO is the i5 760 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-339-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=1672
