Got the EK today. Very nice, beautifully machined. Waiting on a new board, see what the temps are like.

Replaced a Noctua Mounting-Kit + AM2 plate for the D-Tek Fuzion.

To save me doing a proper search, what is the fundamental difference between the i7 and socket 775? Is the heat spreader on the chip actually bigger, a differnt shape or is it the motherboard holes? Would a D-Tek fusion V2 still cover the heat spreader if they brought out a different mount, if it is just the mobo holes?

It's a lot bigger.

Do the waterblocks not come with a backplate? I didn't realise you had to get them seperately.

Do you just buy 'a backplate' for the socket size you want, or do you have to get one specific to your motherboard so it avoids fouling the solder points on the back?

Some do, some don't. D-tek, Swifttech (GPZ) does, EK doesn't. Its not board specific 99% of the time, with the odd exception. Just as long as its the right socket type.
