I've got £200 to choose as a gift for a SINGLE one item purchase, been struggling to find something, so been thinking about PC upgrading

Can't really overclock cpu due to it not being of the K variety...

Currently have..

Asus Z77 Sabertooth
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Overclocked Graphics Card GV-N98TWF3OC-6GD
Intel Core i7-2600 3.40GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor
2 lots of Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9)

Playing games at 3440x1440

Playing Skyrim currently modding the crap out of it, it could be smoother.

I read a lot of threads not point upgrading from an overclocked i7 2600K - but that's not me! so wondered if there was other advice?

cheers

Maybe someone here could help you with BCLK ocing your CPU.

Then tbh I don't know what you would spend on... have you got HDDs or SSDs? You already have GPU covered. Perhaps you could just put it towards the new GPUs that are coming later in the year or a VR headset or something.

I have 2 x 512GB SSD and various 2TB hdds.

Oculus Rift on order.

Just built myself a driving rig with t500, fanatec clubsport v2 pedals, and stuff

Was thinking about a thrustmaster hotas - but it needs to be £200 :( can't go towards a higher value item... tricky..

If your after selling just the cpu I'm your man ;) I'm after a non k version to up my 2500k as my board doesn't oc, then this pc will be my daughters pc. (Excuse to upgrade myself)

My dads on x99 with a 5820k and a gigabyte gaming matx board and it's fantastic

I'd also suggest selling your old CPU and motherboard and taking the money and putting it towards your next upgrade. Alternatively, you could splash that £200 on a nice mechanical keyboard maybe? Or some desktop speakers perhaps? You're not going to get a meaningful CPU and motherboard upgrade with that £200 on its own.

Yes you can. Intel left in four "Bins" as they call them. You can overclock the Turbo by X4 giving you a further 400mhz at least (that's with no bus clock). You should get 105 out of the bus too.

thanks for the info,

Mechanical keyboard i bought a nice new one recently, speakers quite happy with my Soundsticks II - not sure how much better i can get for £200.

might be getting the £200 as amazon vouchers, so could use them towards something now woo

Like a few have said I see you're most cost effective move as being X99. You've got some nice kit already and more on the way which will only be complemented more with a 5820 etc. You're going to get smoother game play and you're overall computer experience will be a tad snapier.
