Hello,

Just wondering if ive got a problem.

I have the i7 2600K CPU and OCUK overclocked this for me as part of my gaming maching to 4.5Ghz. Now im sure it used to state this in the system properties (the page where you get the Windows Experience), but now it just says 3.4Ghz.

Is there another way I can check what speed the CPU is actually running at? If its lost its overclock, does this mean something has gone wrong? Or do CPUs only use their overclock speed when needed and then idle at the slower speed when not?

Hope that makes sense.

yep, they use all speed only when needed, its called speedstep
but its kinda strange overcklock from OCUK,if on idle its 3.4ghz,its should be 1.6ghz if im correct

hmm, went into the BIOS and the top option something called MB IT or similar.

Anyway had a red error message about bootup or something so the CPU speed is back to its normal 3.4Ghz :(

Looks like ive got a knackered PC already.

Download CPU-Z.

Look on the CPU tab and the idle speed should be 1600MHz.

With CPU-Z still open run something like Prime95 to stress the processor.

If the CPU speed jumps up to 4500MHz your overclock is OK.

If it jumps up to 3400MHz then the overclock is gone.

If the overclock is gone then you need to load the profile OcUK saved in the BIOS to restore it.

If you don't know how to do this then post back with the make and model of your motherboard.

If the overclock keeps failing then you'll need to contact OcUK.

And if you can check what bios you using in you mobo, because there lots of improvements in Sandy bioses since it was released.
And do overcklock yourself ;)
