i7 2600k vs i5 4690k

I currently have the i7 2600k and Asus P8Z77 LV X mobo clocked to 4.4ghz

I'm also buying an i5 4690k and Asus ASUS Z97-K mobo, to build a computer for my kid.

I'm getting a 980 GPU and was wondering if i'm better off giving the kid the 2600k Z77 and taking the 4690k / Z97 for myself.

Choice is yours and it depends on what you're doing with your PC. If you're editing videos/photos then the additional cores will make a difference - as with running multiple GPUs.

Otherwise, the i5 will be fine.

Gaming for a few hrs a week, and then just browsing the internet.

Single 980 GTX GPU.

You will not feel a difference

I had a 4690K and still got the 2700K.

Thing is the newer mobo has some slightly newer features and more Sata 6.0GB ports, so maybe i'll take the Z97... Dunno yet.. All ordered, so just waiting on the postman !
