My nephew just bought a 1080 and I’m thinking that his current system is holding it back. Do you think a Ryzen 2700x is a worthy upgrade?

My thinking as well. The 2700K could often reach 5Ghz in the right hands without going over 1.4v. It will probably do near ~4.5Ghz on stock volts and ~4.7Ghz with a very moderate 1.35v.

What resolution and frequency is he gaming at?

1080/60 but he wants to upgrade his monitor at Christmas to superwide
