Just got an i7, when i run intel burn test should i have hyper threading on or off? Should i test all threads in intel burn test? Coming from an i5 where i used to test all four cores only on very high 10-20 runs.

EDIT

Also unlike my i5 it doesnt seem to be clocking down the turbo ratio to x16, it stays at 4.5ghz my current overclock turbo multi.

EDIT

ignore that got speedstep working, turns out using performance power mode of windows 8 stops the cpu clocking down.

id test with multithreading enabled,do a max of 5 runs imo, maybe 10 if you wanna push things,it will fail if its not stable

set to maximum stress and leave threads on auto, then if it passes run prime95 blend test

thats how i stress my 2600k,ibt maximum, threads auto,it should test all 8 threads

Bang on, this is basically what I do with my stress testing.

Thanks guys will try that.

Mike not tested games or such as yet. Trying for a 5ghz clock then will likely run a low voltage 24.7 4.5ghz clock.

4.5ghz 1.250volts
4.7ghz 1.304 volts

Thats as far as ive got. I did have a quick go at 5ghz at 1.4 volts but it crashed which surprised me. Might have to tweak settings a bit maybe.

is that using offset? and multithreading enabled?

i need 1.32v for 4.5ghz with my 2600k,but thats with offset which tends to need a bit more cpu voltage

Some chips will not do 5GHz stable. Are you using water cooling?

H60 with 2x SP120 Corsair high performance fans.

Yeah using offset+hyper threading. Love offset and power saving features so i will not run without them.

Use as much memory as possible without paging. This means close all background processes, anti virus etc., and stop and start at maximum a few times to get as much free mem as possible.

Then anything from 10 to 100 runs.

You should aim to see at least 0.8*32*clock speed in the GFLOPS column. E.g. at 4.8 GHz use enough memory to get at least 0.8*32*4.8=123 GFLOPS. If it's below that, you need to use more memory.

You haven't allowed for HT.
With HT on there is no way to get 123 Gflops at 4.8
With HT off 130+ is possible.

It is one of those things with Linpack that it doesn't work well with HT.
