i7 2700k Vs 3930k?

Currently in the move of swapping over to an x79 setup i got hold of on the cheap. the board I've got to pair with it is a RIVF. The PC is for everything, gaming, rendering, design etc so I'll make use of it outside of gaming.

Just curious as to whether I will notice any performance increase in gaming?

If your rendering uses more cores you will see improvemnts but thats about it.

For CPU Ray Tracing, the 3930k will be about 50% quicker, in pretty much any render engine.

For gaming, I'd be surprised if you notice a difference, although the occasional specific game may show good gains.

They tend to clock nicely, too provided you've good cooling.
I got mine years ago and there's still nothing that offers good value for a replacement yet. Maybe the upcoming 10-core if it comes in at £800, or an 8-core if they ever hit £400.

So it'll only really be rendering improvements, as well the capability to say i have 6 cores

Looking forward to getting it though. Finally got my gpu in the loop.

Need to learn how to overclock on x79 now too. Hoping a RIVF will really push it.

New games/game engines are going to be using 6+ cores, The Division is one of them that will use 6 cores and DX12 games will support the full core count/hyper-threading the cpu has. More cores is the future now with Intel nerfing IPC and only true update from what you have currently. Also your desktop multitasking experience will feel more snappy and other things like compression will speed up zips, rars etc.
