CORE 4 38C

this ok or does he heatsink need remounting? (its the big phanktek one

I would not worry!

I always got varying temps across the cores.

Its due to the bad thermal paste that Intel used in the CPU. There's not much you can do about it unless you want to de-lid your CPU. (Which sounds terrifying!)
