With theese chips, do certain batches or even places of manufacture make much difference regarding overclocking ability. I remember this being the case with the 65nm q6600. My current chip is a bit of a volt hungry malaysian manufactured one, (1.330 in bios for 4.5ghz) and cant remember the batch no. Been scouring the auctions/members market for a proven decent lower voltage clocker. Seen one on mm but the owner has only ever ran it at a mild oc of 4ghz, costa rica manufactured. Basically, are there known better batches or is it just luck of the draw. Thanks in advance.

Ahh, cheers for that. The one listed on mm i can just about make out the batch no on, (eyesight isnt great tbh).

Havent done much memory oc'ing on the one in sig though, but did have the ram stable at 2133mhz 9-10-10-21 trfc 96 on a previous 3570k.

Some nice low voltage clockers there guys. Tbf the current one has been running pretty well, albeit just a little bit hot. Not helped by the recent spate of good weather. And my cards dumping a fair amount of heat into the case. Cant remember what batch mine is, but next time ive got the cooler off ill have to check just out of curiosity.

4.5ghz is a nice speed if you can get it. Mine needs a lot of voltage to get there. But in games such as bf3, the performance over my old 3570k (also at 4.5ghz) with sli is great. Previously i was getting upto 92% cpu use and the cards wouldnt budge over 80%. Now getting 65% cpu use and cards maxing at 99%.

No such luck on the window panel mate. Im actully thinking of transferring my system back to my lian li a70f full tower. It's much better for cooling than the shinobi xl. Also, with a cheap mod ive managed to lower gpu temps by about 4c per card. Stuck a fan on the rear exterior of the case set to extract air from between them.

Good shout on contacting xbournex, ill give that a try. Even if i do swap cases i can still use the shinobi for my other pc. Crysis 3 pushes mine the hardest. I used to be able to run the top card at +130 core, +770 memory and stay below 70c. In this weather overclocking them is a no no due to temps. That and the second card is a poor clocker, only manages + 80 core, +500 memory. Ive ran both at the lower oc speed for a few benches on max fan setting though.

Ahh, ive owned the supermega model, previous to my current mount doom. Albeit ive swapped out the fans on the k2 for x2 120mm akasa piranhas.

Missed out on a week 18 costa chip on the big auction site last week, owner had it at 4.4ghz on 1.17v.

Voltage looks pretty decent, ive had to give mine a bump to 1.340 in bios as it threw up a few errors in games the other day. In game it's hitting 61-62-58-59, vcore showing at 1.306v on my keyboards lcd display.

Ai suite is rubbish mate, fan expert is the only semi decent part of it. I get umpteen messages a day saying this is to high or this aint detected.

Playing something like crysis 3 or bf3 are good games to check for stability, as they give the cpu a decent workout. I expect your seeing much better usage of your sli'd gpu's as well now.

Cant remember what exact settings im using in c3, but its mostly very high. On bf3, ive got everything set to max at 1920x1200, but gonna start using v-sync to drop the fps a bit as it gets too high at times, therefore heating my cards a bit too much. I get much better card use with the i7 than i did with the 3570k, bit of a bottleneck that chip with sli.

560ti sli was comparable to sli 470's i had. I replaced those with my first gtx 670, very nice upgrade. Massive drops in heat, noise and leccy use. Max fps dropped a bit but minimums were a lot better. Soon cured the former with an oc on the card. Great deal on ocuk at the mo on a 670.

Not sure tbh wazza. When i had the 470's, they had the raw grunt to beat a single 670 on max fps, but the low vram count was a bit of a hindrance so i had to drop a few settings. The 670 and the 7950 are pretty much even, though at higher res than 1080p the 3gb of ram on the amd card gives it an edge. And amd's latest driver revisions have really improved the performance.

Looking at the heaven scores in that link idleman, i got 76.4 fps with oc'd gtx 470's in sli, 83.5 fps with the 670. Cant remember what the clocks on the 470's were but the 670 was at 1320mhz core, 7586mhz memory. Thats +130 core and +770 memory. Cpu with both setups was an i7 920 @4.0ghz.

Seems my sli was disabled:o and not for the first time.

Just ran this now, much better.

Running at 822 2004 stock OC settings.
Thats more like it mate.:)

Well, my 3770k is soon gonna be retired. Just purchased a 4770k on members market. Just gotta decide which board to pair it with. Thinking of the maximus hero.:D

Yep, the non rog asus boards are a bit iffy looking. Been looking at a few of the gigabyte boards as well, the oc being one and the Z87X-UD4H.

The hero though has an identical layout to my current board in sig, i use the pcie x1 slot above the top x16 gpu slot for my audio card. Stops it blocking the fans on the lowest graphics card. Will be a few days till i get the cash gathered together for the mobo, but thankfully ive been doing a lot of overtime lately. Might keep the 3770k setup and get shot of my old x58 system.

Yep, both are pretty well priced, always gone with asus boards as im pretty familiair with them. But ill have a read at a few reviews of the various gb offerings.

Ill more than likely be going with the hero 8 Pack, seen a few people on here praising it and ive always liked asus boards. Layout wise, from pics it looks the same as my board in sig. Which is pretty good for sli. Current setup and spacing below.

Had an sli setup in a tightly spaced p6 x58 de board a while back, nightmare with temps on the top card as it hit 98c in seconds of starting a game. Got the 4770k in yesterday, hopefully have the board next week. But so busy at work it will be a few more days till i get the system built.
