i7 3770k batches.

Thats more like it mate.:)

Well, my 3770k is soon gonna be retired. Just purchased a 4770k on members market. Just gotta decide which board to pair it with. Thinking of the maximus hero.:D

Seen that thread this morning, congrats. Bit of a short service for the 3770k.
Nice mobo (love my Asus boards) or the GB OC. Both excellent boards by all accounts, although I hear 8 Pack rates the OC as a great overclocker.

Yep, the non rog asus boards are a bit iffy looking. Been looking at a few of the gigabyte boards as well, the oc being one and the Z87X-UD4H.

The hero though has an identical layout to my current board in sig, i use the pcie x1 slot above the top x16 gpu slot for my audio card. Stops it blocking the fans on the lowest graphics card. Will be a few days till i get the cash gathered together for the mobo, but thankfully ive been doing a lot of overtime lately. Might keep the 3770k setup and get shot of my old x58 system.

Hero is a decent board as are the Giga offerings your looking at. I would not be pointed too much by reviews as recently I have seen a massive selection of no idea when it comes to Z87 and Haswell clocking.

Ill more than likely be going with the hero 8 Pack, seen a few people on here praising it and ive always liked asus boards. Layout wise, from pics it looks the same as my board in sig. Which is pretty good for sli. Current setup and spacing below.

Had an sli setup in a tightly spaced p6 x58 de board a while back, nightmare with temps on the top card as it hit 98c in seconds of starting a game. Got the 4770k in yesterday, hopefully have the board next week. But so busy at work it will be a few more days till i get the system built.

Just wondering guys, if I raise the BCLK, what effect would this have?
I have an itch now and want to see how capable the chip is. I assume by raising the BLCK, that this will raise the voltages and thus the temps.

Some of you may know I have had major issues running my HIS 7950 in my MSI Z77 Mpower Primary PCIe slot, more details here-

https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=174456.0

Having been in touch with MSI all week, they now tell my that the reason my Mpower board and 7950 wont function together is not in fact due to a BIOS fault/incompatibility.

But more that they wont function together because my i7 3770k is Costa Rican built (BATCH 3231B711) and NOT Malaysian built.....

This sounds like utter tosh to me? Anyone can confirm?

Thanks

yeah tosh imo, ditch the msi board and buy asus or gigabyte

im a bit shocked at how poor msi bios's are, seen few ram issues also,z87 seems to fair better so far

its msi or his bios, they will usually blame one or the other and so it goes back n forth and no fix is implemented

I was thinking of the ASROCK Fatal1ty Professional next?
My Budget is around £150.

Or the Gigabyte Z77X-UP7 although its power hungry and apparently somewhat slow...

ASROCK boards seem to be getting a good reputation for delivering persistently reliable boards? From what ive read....

I have read the Gigabyte boards will probably solve my issue but I just cant get too excited about them, spec wise or aesthetically.

ASUS, would like an EXTREME V Gene or something but they are all over budget!

Thanks wazza300 :)

you could change the card also?sapphire/asus/powercolor

asrock cant be anyworse than your current board

the asus gene is a good board imo,if you could nab a used one?

if you went gigabyte id recommend the one im using a z77x up4 th

have you thought about flashing the his bios with a sapphire bios? idk if that card has dual bios's if so try flashing one? it might make the card work correctly in the board

I could change the GPU yeah, but this one cost me £260 and I was trying to do the most cost effective solution which would be motherboard at around £150.

I think I will keep an eye out for an ASUS board, or do a bit more research on Gigabyte, or the board you have.

I did give brief thought about doing that yeah, my card does have dual BIOS's so no reason why I couldn't give it a try I guess, any idea where I could get a Sapphire 7950 BIOS from?

Thanks again

you can look on techpowerup.com bios archive

use gpu-z to make a backup of your original bios just incase, and I think atitools or winflash will let you flash the bios

itll only flash if they are compatible

flashing a different his bios version might work also

Thanks, ive tried the 001 and 005 versions of the HIS BIOS's. Got 005 from techpowerup!

Do you mean this is the board you're using? UP4*

Looks a decent board and it has Thunderbolt. What are your thoughts on it?

Thanks

its a good board, ive had no problems with it,works fine with powercolor 7970 and msi 7850 that ive used in it

clocks well too, aslong as you use latest bios its fine

if I were you id look for either a used up4 th or an asus gene
