hi guys

Ive noticed that when i run a program or prime95 and run CPU-Z the core speed just stays around the 3500MHz.

Ive tried manually overclocking it to 4.4 but when i run prime it jsut stays on 3500MHz.

Any help will be appreciated.

I have

I7 4770k
Asus maximus formula VI
patriot 2400 16gb (2x8gb)
Corsiar RM850

Thanks

Dan

Tried clearing the CMOS/Resetting bios settings to defaults? Clearing the CMOS would be my first port of call.

Yep I had a similar thing where although I was changing the core clock it would always default to 4.7ghz in windows even though it was set as stock in bios (as far as you could tell).

Cleared CMOS and started fresh and problem went straight away

it should be boosting to 3.9 on standard settings.

Also noticed that its constantly clocked on 3.5. even on idle.

heres a screenshot of cpu z

Also noticed its showing 2 cores and 4 threads, but on task manager is does show 4 cores

problem solved!

had to untick boot up cores in msconfig and also change the power plan to balanced as it was on performance.

Now its time to overclock! :)

HI can you post a pick of what you untick in msconfig because I have the same problem. When I reset to stock don't boost up at all just stays at 3.5ghz.

Right now I have the turbo boost disabled and just running at 4.6ghz @1.28 volts all time, and what I would like to do is enable the state that allows the MHz to drop low and boost up to 4.6ghz when needed but if I do enable it just boosts up to 3.5ghz. Can you help me

That feature should be in the BIOS. C3/C6/C7/EIST

If you enable C3 power state and EIST the CPU multiplier and voltage drop together even if you have set a manual voltage. My 4670k @ 4.5Ghz drops way down when idle along with the Vcore. When setting this I believe you must also set minimum processing state in the power options. This was with Gigabyte BIOS.

Yes do make sure you put the power option on balanced and not on performance mode.

Control panel/power options.

Make sure thenchange is saved and test using cpuz. Mine did not save the 1st time time I did it for some reason.
