I'm trying to overclock my 4770k and managed to get it to 4.4 but won't go any further stable, my ram is team vulcan at 2400mhz could this be the problem that my i7 won't go any further or is it just the fact I havnt got a good overclocker?

Firstly I would leave ram with exmp disabled and over clock high as possible. Then test stability and then over click ram. If you are gaming you won't see any benefit from high frequency ram. Also what is your voltage?

If you want higher clocks you would need to disable xmp profile off (which is a over clock of ram). Maybe try to turn them down to 2133mhz or even 1600mhz with tighter timings?

In games you want see any difference as I said above, but video rendering etc you will see some advantage. In many cases when you reach a overclock of about 4.5ghz on haswells it struggles to keep xmp profile.
Also from my personal experience with my I7 4770k I know by dropping ram speed I was able to go 300mhz more. So in my case I was doing 4.4ghz at 1.255v with ram clocked at 2400. However when I dropped timings on my G/skill ram to CAS 9 9 9 24 1600mh I was able to go up to 4.7ghz at 1.297v with temps in mid 80's.

Please note that every ram is different so it may not be able to do it like mine. I cant advise you on how to do ram timings and frequencies as I dont want to take any responsibilities if something happens.

Thanks for that I thought it might have something to do with my memory as I have xmp setup in the bios so il try and drop it down and see if that works.
