Hi all, I have my new setup running stable! CPU at 4.2GHz at 1.16V temps are mid 20's idle and hit mid 60's under a full stress test. Everything seems very good. Is there any point of attempting 4.4GHz? I really only use the PC for gaming, apart from synthetic benchmarks, will I notice any real difference with the slightly higher clock? See my sig for system info.

Depending on how long you're intending keeping it, it certainly seems worth a try. Those numbers seem pretty good in terms of Haswell, 4.4 definitely seems in reach for you.

Yeah want to get at least 4 years out of this setup (VGA cards aside!) so do not want to push it too much initially. Will roll with this for now and re-look at the OC in the next year. Don't think at 4.2GHz it will bottleneck my 280Xs anyway.

If your going OC it, better to do it in the warranty period?
Also as long as you dont go silly with voltages it will be fine

Yeah I have 4.2GHz is fine for me at the moment. Idles low 20's, full load max 66oC! All at 1.16V. RAM is running in XMP well 9-9-9-24 @ 1.25V If I need more out of it over time I will re-think, also that is with HT on for the i7! I think the jump with these to 4.4GHz I have read need a bit more core V's, and therefore get quite toasty! May look at OCing the cache (NB) over time too!
