Hi everyone,
I have had the system (listed below) for about three to four weeks and have been watching the cpu temperature as these chips are apparently hot stuff, the system is not overclocked but I thought the Prolimatech Panther would be enough to keep it cool, normal working temp is about 38c to 65c running a game it is about 86c and may pop up to 90c on occasions, problem is when Macafee kicks in for a scan or downloading and installing something like iTunes temp goes to 105c (dont install much so not to much of a problem but the scanning could be).
Some things that cross my mind are :-
Would it be be a big improvement if I purchased an extra fan for the unit (push pull arrangement) or
Should I consider a better unit like a Prolimatech Megahalems Rev C CPU Cooler or a Noctua (I don't wish to go to a wet system of any sort after problems with one in the past).
To all intents and purposes the PC runs really well, no lockups or blue screening.
any advise from anyone running an I7 4770K with a different setup and/or knows how to get better temperatures would be greatly appreciated.
also do you think this would invalidate the warranty on the unit.
or is there some way to do this and still keep the warranty?
Thanks in advance
Terry

It sounds like your gpu is dumping heat into the case when gaming thus increasing cpu temps.

I just looked at your case spec and it only has 2 fans, One front intake and one back exhaust, i think you would benefit from a couple of fans on the side panel intaking air into the case.

Either 120mm or 140mm, you could even add 2 more in the top of the case.

Hi added a couple of exhaust fans to top and extra intake in the front its getting pretty draughty now,and there is very little difference to the temps I will add a couple to the side and post result.
Thanks

Did you fit the CPU cooler yourself? Perhaps re-fit it to make sure it is on properly.

That GFX card does not run too hot and doesn't dump that much air into the case.

I think your cooler is not on properly; if after a refit it's the same, RMA it (The cpu). Those temps are not natural for a non-OC.

the pc was from the configurator and built by overclockers, I did query the temps with them but they seemed quite happy with them as this cpu does run very hot anyway,n not sure if it will affect my warranty if i refit the cpu?

It might affect their 24-month "package" warranty.

Post in the customer services section and stress the fact that you are running into +100 degrees in normal everyday use.. that is NOT normal.

Don't go replacing anything just now. Just contact them, they should sort it out as they're usually good with this stuff.

Non-overclocked chip should never run into throttling limit (95c) even on stock cooling, otherwise it's classed as faulty.
