What better way to start out on a forum than with a build thread!?

I started this build last week, but due to being away for the weekend and not having all components I figured there wasn't much point posting a thread yet.

Anyway, this little bundle turned up last Wednesday!

Now this turned up today along with the sound card and fans

So the specs are:

Intel Core i7 4790K
Asus Z97-DELUXE Intel Z97
Corsair H100i
16Gb Corsair Vengeance 2133mhz DDR3 RAM
250GB Samsung 840 EVO Basic SSD
2x 2TB WD Red in raid 1
1000W Corsair RM Series PSU
EVGA GTX 780 3GB Classified Dual BIOS with ACX Cooler
Asus Xonar DX/XD 7.1
Phanteks Enthoo Pro
2x Corsair AF140 QE fans (mounted at the front of the case - I bought 3 but haven't decided where to use the 3rd yet, the stock rear fan on the Enthoo Pro seems ok!)

It's clearly been a while since I last built a PC (my last one had a Radeon X1950 XT 256mb GPU which was "mid-range" at the time I guess!) and I knew I'd lost my touch a little when I rand into a really simple problem that took me longer than I'll admit to work out!

This was the cause:

Anyway... I've run into a few issues with regards to CPU temps, so right now I think I could use a little assistance, or at least - reassurance!
When I put it together (before the GPU, Soundcard and AF140s arrived) I had pretty good temps when running prime95 - around mid 60's on all 4 cores.
As soon as I enabled the XMP profile in bios the temps instantly shot to 97-100. The annoying thing was it was super late on the first night of the build at this point so I had forgotten I made BIOS changes, and spent ages hunting for hardware problems! (again ) Eventually I remembered the BIOS changes and reset them back to stock, which dropped the temps but not back to where they were - around high 76-79 degrees during a prime95 test.
I decided that the stock thermal paste hadn't formed a good enough contact patch since it didn't quite feel right as I attached the pump/block first time round.
Today I cleaned all of that off and applied some MX-4 and this time it felt better as I attached it. Temps are now around mid - high 60's on when running a prime95 test (ambient temp is warmer today).

This still seems higher than I remember being considered healthy - Should I have another go at seating the block?

I was under the impression that with the H100i and stock clock speeds and ambient temps around 20 degrees that a prime95 test shouldn't pass around 50 degrees but that's just what I read online which I know from my day job can be a dangerous thing to do when it comes to looking for solid info!

I had planned to dip my toes into the world of overclocking with this build but want to be sure that I'm not going to be cooking anything!

Any help would be very much appreciated, and I'll try and get some nicer photos once everything is wired in tonight!

Laughed more than I should have at the excessively branded competitor packaging :D

"Quick, suppress it! The proletariats might get ideas!"

lovely spec list! and as said above, the temps don't seem to be that much out of the ordinary. have you tried resitting your cpu block just in case?

Yeah, I did it and temps seem ok - a few degrees cooler. Been playing games etc and it's not getting hotter than around 51 so I'm happy enough I think!

Yeah, re-seating the block seems to have helped but gut feeling says it could still be better so might re-seat again if I encounter an issue. Added the AF140s in place of the stock front fan on the Enthoo too, which seems quieter

make sure you clean all the TIM off completely and then reseat it to make sure.
and yeah I've got some af140s in my build and I can barely hear them
