It's that time again where I beg for techhead help for a PC upgrade...

Current system:
CPU: i7 4790K (4.4)
Cooler: Dark Rock 3
Motherboard: MSI Gaming 5
MEM: 16GB Corsair vengeance
PSU: SuperFlower Leadex GOLD 750W Fully Modular "80 Plus Gold
SSD: Various sized Samsung EVo SSDs (OS, Gaming etc)
GPU: Zotac GeForce GTX 1070 Ti AMP! Edition 8 GB
CASE: Xigmatek Midgard II Gaming Tower Case - Black

The main use is Gaming (Rust, BF4\2042, Cities Skyline). I know most of the above will not be used in the new rig, so would like a view or two on the proposed build. The PSU is old, and I've had a few failures over the years with other PSU's so would consider replacing this part if recommended. I'll need to reuse the 1070 given the budget and availability of the 30x GTX....

I've opted for two WD nvme drives as I like to keep my OS, Games, Music separate. Is this still a reasonable approach given the nvme technology?

(sorry cannot see the BBCODE option)

Intel Alderlake cpu release in 5 weeks mite be worth holding off till then.

All looks good but you could 2 x 1tb western digital sn 550 for the same money slightly slower speeds but good value.

All sensible choices. I personally would not put a 500gb nvme drive in for storage and would only use 1TB+ in either of the limited amount of slots. Can get cheaper 1tb pcie3 for less than that 500gb.

Your PSU is a good brand. I would reuse it and only replace if you have issues.

After some rethinking, and for no reason other than how impressed I've been with the old 4790K, I started thinking about an Intel Alderlake build as the 12600K seems to be a sweet spot for my type of build. As I mainly game at 1080p, I'm hoping my 1070Ti will cope with modern titles (2042 etc). I was going to reuse my Superflower Gold 750 PSU hence not in the build. Would the below work, no glaring errors?

Intel Core i5-12600K 3.70GHz (Alder Lake) Socket LGA1700 Processor - £289.99
Asus Prime Z690-P WIFI D4 - Intel Z690 DDR4 ATX Motherboard - £219.95
Lian Li O11 Air Mini, Midi-Tower, Tempered Glass - White - £109.99
Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C16 3200MHz Dual Channel Kit - £79.99
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g) - £5.99
WD Blue SN570 1TB SSD NVME M.2 2280 PCIe Gen3 Solid State Drive (WDS100T3B0C) - £83.99
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition CPU Cooler - 120mm - £32.99
Total £822.89

Looks okay, but I don't think your full ATX power supply will fit in that? Might want to check what form factor power supply you need or go for the full size Lian Li O11 Dynamic.

Edit: Don't use Arctic Silver either, it's conductive and you don't need it. Get some MX5 or Thermo Grizzly on there.

Edit again: You may want to get a better cooler, look for the Alpenfohn one recommended on here or get something like a Scythe Mugen 5 Rev 2.

Scythe Mugen 5 Rev B is the only one I can see, I assume thats going to need a LGA1700 mounting kit, which is fine. Noted on the Grizzly. Thanks for the shout on the case, will go for the second option, Meshify C as recommended earlier, just fancied a Lian-Li, always have :)

Yeah Rev B, that's the one. I was on the right track :D

Meshify C is a good case, I like good airflow cases and that one is nice and one I considered, I think I'm gonna go for either that or the O11 standard Dynamic at some point next year, I like the look of both.
