Hi all,

I've done a build with an i7 5930k CPU, MSI X99S Gaming 7 motherboard, MSI R290x GPU and a hyper 212 evo heat sink + fan (link below). Oh and an EVGA gold standard 850W PSU.

Heat sink + fan:

After booting up the motherboard (testing outside the case with just the GPU fan and heat sink fan running), in the BIOS, I watched the CPU temperature, which settles around 38°C, when navigating through the BIOS it can touch 39-40°C. Is this a good average temperature to settle at? If not, could this be because its out of the case with less fans running?

Usually in the BIOS the cpu is under some load and running full speed.
But temps look fine, full load is what you need to test once your up & running.

As said above , perfectly normal , windows isn't performing power saving features etc so your CPU is just running @ 100% even if not under a lot of load . Test in windows to double check temps are stable but should see temps drop 10c or so when idling at desktop , think I see my 5820k & 4770k both a bit hotter in bios

Umm , am i the only one who wouldn't dream of using that heatsink on a 5930k ? Thats a seriously budget cooler on a very high end high tdp chip.

I think it's a really good heatsink, the low price makes it a bonus. Used it on a 960T unlocked and overclocked, an 8150 overclocked, and a 4770k. Now sitting in a Jonsbo U3, admittedly with an i3 4130 but keeping below 60ºC under full load. Best £25 I've spent.

Wouldn't say id use it for overclocking in anyway , but should just about do the job . as said , just monitor temps in windows at idle and under load to be sure
