i7 6700k at 90c at full load?

My i7 6700k was at 90c when I ran Prime95. Is this normal? The cpu was not overclocked and I was using the Intel stock cooler from 3770k

Yes, you are correct. I was using the stock cooler from i7 3770k. Thanks for mentioning this.

Was it part of a ready made bundle or have you mounted it your self. It won't have damaged anything at 90° but even a cheap cooler should keep it well below that.

What your BIOS settings/system info. Particularly voltage readings from something like HWMonitor?

I would buy a decent cooler soon

i went for a noctua nh-d15 seemed like overkill size and price wise

but worth it for the performance and sound levels well below 50c load and nearly silent (No overclock yet)

You are correct. I tried other ones like Intel Burn Test and Asus test and it did not go over 60c and full 100% load.

They will underclock themselves to prevent major overheating. At more extreme temps, it will force shut down your computer before any major damage is done.
