Hi guys,

I am not very into overclocking etc however I got this new chip last week and did not really get to do any work with it as I had problems with GFX that ended up being RMA so now I had some more free time to play and I got a couple of questions to those of you who own the same chip? I am running straight out of the box without any over clock or anything - BIOS is set to auto - did not touch anything there yet.

I run CPUz while at the same time running Prime95 for about 10m and the Core VID in CPUz was around 1.35 - 1.4111 (the highest it jumped during the test) - IS THIS NORMAL? should it not be a set number? Is this not too high?

I looked this up on the net a bit and most people reviews are stating that the Core stock voltage is 1.2?? Maybe I am not understanding it correctly but should it not be 1.2 in CPUz while running tests??? If it should why does it fluctuate for me this high? As I said its running at stock 4ghz with turbe 4.2ghz while testing. If I am understanding it right and it should not be this high how come it comes out of the box like this if majority of people are reporting 1.2v - do I adjust this manually somewhere?

The other problem I am having is temps during load - I use H110i GTX - after 10m of Prime95 the temps go as high as 80C - I did not dare to push further so I shut it off after it got to 80C in HWmonitor while the settings are on performance mode for the cooler.. this seems odd to be this high?? However once in idle the temps average around 20C???

Other components - Asus Hero 8, i7 6700k, H110i gtx, ddr4 corsair ram

Any insight into this is appreciated?

Tom

If I remembered right when some instructions are used eg AVX. Prime will add 0.1-0.2v to cpu. I'm not sure if this is on skylake but it was on haswell. Not it's not only in prime if program uses AVX voltage will be increased.

The best is to set voltage manually as if on auto cpu is always overvolted. for example my cpu i7 4770k at 1.17v can do 4.1ghz and when voltage set on auto it only is able reaches 3.9ghz turbo boost (stock).

Run rendering software and look at what voltages you get, they should be lower. ( moviemaker, after effects?)

If your not into overclocking I would drive all the way to overclockers shop and let them do it for you.

Learning how to overclock is a discipline in its self. At least with someone doing it for you your have the peace of mind your system will be operating in a safe zone when complete.

Wish I could do that driving :) I am based in IRL so can`t do it.
I am sure it`s not that hard just trying to figure it out now.

my 6700k everything on auto its around 1.30 - 1.32v on load , i have since overclocked it to 4.7ghz at 1.376v i use a noctua 14 cooler , highest cores get is 71c on load

Can I manually lover the voltage? How do I know what is the safe low stock voltage? I am guessing that lower the voltage lower the temps most likely..?

when its being stressed, cores at 100%, when running Prime95 thats what it does so you can test overclock if its stable,

when mines is idle it drops to 800mhz 0.768v

yours seems high if everything is on auto , most are stock are around 1.28 - 1.33v
