Wednesday I installed my new i7 6950X CPU and obvious it's a bit hotter than my previous i7 [email protected] (1.252v).

I am just wondering if these temperatures are OK under stress testing ?
(I know I won't hit them under daily use with my gaming & content creation).
I am running the CPU at 4.2GHz 1.3v with a Phanteks PH-TC14PE Dual Tower 2x 140mm fans cooler. The fans run at max speed 1600rpm as soon as the CPU hits 70°c (set custom profile in BIOS)

I run AIDA64 Extreme with both CPU/FPU stress test and one with CPU/FPU/Cache stress test.

I have tried running OCCT 4.5.1 but it just aborts testing when a core reaches 85°c while AIDA64 keeps going on !?

The fan setup is 2x120m top exhaust, 4x 120m pull/pull front intake, 1x 20m bottom intake, 1x 120mm rear exhaust, 1x 120mm side intake (by the graphics cards when the side panel on.

Those temps look alright for a stress test. I'd assume that when you are doing your daily stuff temps are much lower?

OCCT has a killswitch when any core reaches 85C. This can be raised or disabled in the program settings.

Is 1.3v for a 4.3Ghz 6950x normal? My only reference is my 5820K does 4.3Ghz at 1.2v but that is 4 less cores and a different architecture.

Ok nice, I wasn't aware you could alter the temperature limit in OCCT.

What I have seen as for OC'ing the 6950X some take 1.25v for 4.2~4.3GHz and others need 1.3v and some require 1.35v for 4.3GHz. It seems it varies a bit.
I used to have a two i7 5820Ks both running 4.1GHz and one ran at 1.2v and the other could get away with 1.18v. They could perhaps have run faster like 4.2~4.3GHz at that voltage, but I never really went higher. I just plugged them in set multiplier to x41 and set the voltage +off set.
