Hi All,

So I have a PC here with an I7 7700K CPU and when idle or in a game or anything stressing the CPU a little the core #1 and #2 seem to keep spiking in temperature around 20c every few seconds.

See Image Here - https://ibb.co/cyXj4m

It also looks like these 2 cores I mentioned are receiving more load than the others for some reason? any ideas why and how I could fix this? Is this normal.

I have a H100i V2 as the cooler which should be working sufficiently as its only ever these 2 cores that keep spiking causing my fans to keep kicking in faster obviously becoming extremely annoying. This is how I noticed the issue.

I am wanting to know if there is anything I can try from your guys experiences and if anyone has ever seen this issue. I can re seat the heat-sink at the weekend but was wondering if anyone has any other ideas that I can try before doing so.

Have you tried removing the cooler, checking paste distribution, check cooler plate is flat (edge of a steel ruler across it in various places/angles) then remounting. Could very easily be a sub-optimal cooler mounting.

I Have not tried this yet but will check this tonight as I will have time to do so now. I can't remember needing to add any of my own thermal paste on the plate as it came with some on stock but I might wipe this off and re-apply with my own.
I will update once I have re-seated the heat-sink for the cooler.

Have you checked for viruses etc? Some cryptocoin mining viruses use the latter cores as it's less likely to be noticed.

I've re seated my CPU as the paste wasn't greatly spread from the paste that comes with the H100i V2. This helped a bit but I noticed that the intel CPU software was taking priority over my V-CORE so I have reduced this and now temps are good again. Still spike but no way near as high and temps only reach 60oc when gaming now.
